As we continue our exciting growth journey, we're looking for a talented Legal Counsel, Real Estate to help shape the future of Casey's. As a Legal Counsel, Real Estate, you'll play a critical role in supporting Casey's continued expansion. You will work closely with leaders across Real Estate, Business Development, Construction, and Operations to provide practical legal guidance on matters involving the acquisition, development, leasing, construction, and management of Casey's locations. This is a highly visible role that offers the opportunity to influence major growth initiatives while partnering with stakeholders across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to Casey's Real Estate, Business Development, and Construction teams.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of real estate agreements, including:
  • Purchase and sale agreements
  • Commercial leases
  • Easements and access agreements
  • Construction and development contracts
  • Lead legal due diligence efforts for real estate transactions, including title, survey, environmental, and permitting reviews.
  • Counsel business partners on zoning, land use, permitting, and development matters.
  • Handle and resolve real estate disputes, including landlord-tenant matters, construction claims, and land use issues.
  • Review and negotiate condemnation and eminent domain matters.
  • Assist with obtaining zoning changes, variances, and other governmental approvals necessary for development projects.
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel as appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline contracting, development approvals, and related business processes.
  • Build strong relationships across the organization to ensure legal compliance while supporting business objectives.

Compensation: Starting pay range:‏‏‎ ‎$120,000‎ - $145,000. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance and an annual equity grant in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree and a member in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum 3 years of real estate legal experience with significant contract drafting, and survey and title review practice strongly preferred. Experience with review of title insurance commitments preferred.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate with business leaders to find solutions that meet company goals while minimizing risk.
  • Experience working directly with clients, whether in house or at a law firm.
  • Experience juggling multiple contracts with competing priorities.
