About the Role

The Legal Counsel, Property & Constructionin the Legal Services Group is a service-focused, first point of contact for users of legal services within RMIT and supports the General Counsel and Associate Director, Property & Constructionin theLegal ServicesGroup todeliver highquality legaladvice toclients within RMIT in a timely and customer-focused manner

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a service-focused, proactive point of contact for internal clients and external parties including across the Property Services Group, as well as other portfolios and RMIT’s controlled entities as may berequired

  • Provide legal and strategic advice and support to thesupported portfolios within theuniversityand inthe negotiation, drafting and development of agreements, policies, processes, tenderdocumentsand all related legal documents required by theuniversity

  • Develop andmaintaina productive and positive working relationship with key portfolio stakeholders and their teams.

  • Develop and deliver business-focused training programs on relevant and contemporary legalsubjectsincluding as required by the General Counsel andAssociate Director, Property & Construction.

  • Maintain and enhance a suite of template documents for use within and by theuniversity

  • Manage the use of external legal advice as required by the General Counsel and Associate Director, Property & Construction

About You

To be successful in this position,you’llhave:

  • Substantial experience working as a lawyer in theareas of property and/or construction. In-house experiencehighlydesirable.

  • Demonstrated experience advising on, and problem solving in a legal and business context.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders from a range of experience levels.

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering business-relevant andtimelylegal advicethrough qualityengagement with stakeholders.

  • Proven ability tooperatewitha high levelof confidentiality in a diplomatic manner with the ability to lead and influence others.

  • Excellent oral, written,interpersonaland time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a fast-moving team environment.

  • Positive, can-do attitude.

  • Mandatory: Holda currentpracticingcertificate as an Australianlawyer undertheLegal ProfessionUniform Law
