About the Role:

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to provide advice across property and environment matters, planning approvals and land acquisitions. The incumbent will work closely with our general counsel to support the delivery of CDC’s projects and operations by advising on planning approvals, regulatory compliance, real estate transactions, and associated commercial arrangements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Provide timely and practical legal advice on environment and planning matters, compliance matters and real estate transactions, across CDC’s development and operational portfolio.
• Support planning and environmental approval processes, including advising on statutory frameworks, conditions of consent, compliance obligations and risk mitigation strategies.
• Draft, review and negotiate property related agreements including leases, licences, easements, options, development agreements, consultant appointments and related commercial contracts.
• Assist with legal due diligence for site acquisitions, disposals and development projects, identifying key risks, liabilities and mitigation actions.
• Advise project and development teams on legal and regulatory issues impacting land use, environmental compliance, utilities, infrastructure and operational approvals.
• Support contract administration practices by contributing to standard templates, guidance materials and process improvements.
• Manage and coordinate external legal advisers and specialist consultants,as required.
• Monitor changes in planning, environmental and property related legislation and regulations, and provide guidance on impacts to CDC’s developments and ongoing operations.

About You:

• 5+ years’ post admission experience, ideally with a mix of private practice and in house experience.
• Demonstrated experience in real estate, environment and planning law, preferably within infrastructure, property development or regulated asset environments.
• Experience drafting and negotiating property and development related agreements and advising on planning and environmental approval frameworks and regulatory compliance.
• Australian Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 Security Clearance.
