The Legal counsel and Compliance Officer based in AU is responsible for delivering legal services that support business operations and strategic initiatives and ensuring the local operation is compliant with the applicable laws as well as Sulzer internal policies. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, mitigates legal risks, and provides expert legal counsel across a range of corporate matters.
Manage the legal function for all business units of Sulzer in Australia, ensuring alignment with corporate legal strategy.
Provide legal advice on commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters.
Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of complex contracts and legal documents.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Support the resolution of legal disputes and manage litigation in coordination with external legal counsel.
Develop and implement legal policies, procedures, and training programs.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support business initiatives and manage legal risks.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organization.
Lead, mentor, and develop external legal service providers.
Typically a University degree (or equivalent work experience) and 9+ years of relevant work experience are minimally required.
Licensed to practice law in Australia
Strong experience in corporate and commercial law, with a focus on contract law and compliance.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic legal advice.
High ethical standards and sound legal judgment.
Experience in a multinational or matrixed organization and industries such as oil and gas, power generation, mining, chemicals and water is preferred.
