About the role

Reporting to the Divisional General Counsel, the position assists in the delivery of sophisticated and pragmatic legal services to Bayside Health and its staff. Legal Counsel will provide legal services, advice and education on a wide range of legal matters, including legal aspects of clinical operational dimensions of hospital and health service functions. The Legal Counsel will also play a role in helping to develop and deliver organisation-wide responses to clinical, operational and commercial issues that have legal dimensions. Such assistance will involve:

  • Contract analysis and negotiation;
  • Advice on individual and organisational compliance with legislative, regulatory and professional obligations;
  • Litigation and advocacy in all Victorian and Commonwealth courts and tribunals;
  • Policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Other legal services as requested.

About you

  • Admitted as an Australian Legal Practitioner and hold a Practicing Certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of pragmatic legal advice
  • Strong legal research and statutory interpretation skills
  • Knowledge of the health sector and its legal challenges.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
