About the role

We are seeking a commercially minded and pragmatic Legal Counsel to support our growing technology business in Hungary and across the wider group.

This role forms part of the Group Legal function and reports directly to the Head of Legal. The successful candidate will independently manage legal matters within their remit, while aligning with the group legal strategy and agreed escalation protocols.

This is an individual contributor role requiring confidence, ownership and sound judgement.

What you will do

  • Independently manage day-to-day legal matters relating to the Hungarian entity;

  • Draft, review and negotiate a board range of commercial agreements, including but not limited to:

    • Master services agreements / Framework agreements;

    • Statements of work;

    • Supplier agreements;

    • Non-disclosure agreements;

    • Consultancy and contract agreements;

    • IP licences; and

    • IT services agreements.

  • Support sales, finance and HR teams with contract negotiations;

  • Advise on Hungarian corporate, contract, employment and regulatory matters;

  • Liaise with external counsel in Hungary when required;

  • Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements;

  • Identify legal risks and propose commercially balanced solutions;

  • Escalate strategically significant, high-value or precedent-setting matters to the Head of Legal;

  • Contribute to internal processes, templates and governance frameworks;

  • Ad-hoc legal related tasks or projects;

  • Maintain accurate and organized contract documentation within the Group Contract Repository to ensure easy retrieval and accessibility;

  • Support implementation of Group policies in Hungary.

Requirements

  • Qualified Hungarian lawyer;

  • This role involves regular collaboration, so we’re looking for someone who can join us in the office about twice a week. We’re flexible, and this may evolve - but being within an easy commute of Budapest is key.

  • 3-5 years post-qualification experience;

  • Strong experience in commercial contracting;

  • Experience in a technology, IT services or fast-paced business environment;

  • Ability to handle matters independently with minimal supervision;

  • Exceptional organisational skills and adept project management capabilities to oversee multiple tasks efficiently;

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills;

  • Excellent written and spoken English;

  • Sound judgement and risk assessment capability;

  • Comfortable working in a cross-border environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Exposure to GDPR and data protection matters;

  • Experience working with UK or international stakeholders;

  • Familiarity with cross-border group structures;

  • Experience supporting a scaling or high-growth company.
