Permanent

A brilliant opportunity has arisen for a Legal Clerk to join our dynamic and progressive Legal Services team.

The Role

As a Legal Clerk, you will provide essential administrative and practice management support to Fee Earners and teams across Legal Services. You will play a key part in the smooth running of legal casework and contribute to high quality service delivery across a diverse range of practice areas.

Your work will directly support legal teams operating in Criminal & Licensing, Housing, Civil Litigation, Employment, Planning, Commercial, Adult & Human Rights, Education, and Practice Management.

This is an excellent role for someone organised, proactive, and eager to build a career in legal services within a large public sector environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Use the case management system to produce correspondence, forms, court documents, maps, plans, and other legal documentation

• Create tables, content lists, graphs, spreadsheets, and documents using advanced word processing functions

• Prepare accurate, comprehensive legal bundles and documentation to tight deadlines

• Operate general office equipment, including scanners, photocopiers, binders, and computers

• Assist with file movement, delivery of documents, opening new cases, closing files, archiving, and maintaining spreadsheets

• Support the progression of legal casework through monitoring, initiating documents, and managing reminders

• Process routine communications (post, email, phone), including copying, scanning, and information distribution

• Assist with legal administration tasks including sealing documents, running case management reports, and processing invoices

• Safeguard information in line with data protection legislation and council policies

• Contribute to continuous improvement, undertake training, and support colleagues across Legal Services

• Work flexibly to meet team and service demands, including occasionally outside standard office hours


About You

You will be someone who can stay calm under pressure, work accurately to deadlines, and communicate effectively with both colleagues and external customers.

You will also need:

• GCSEs (A–C / 4–9) in English and Maths (or equivalent)

• 13 months–2 years’ experience in an administrative, secretarial, or customer service role

• Experience using IT systems, including Microsoft Office packages and Internet tools

• Experience of office systems and procedures

• An understanding of confidentiality requirements

• Strong organisational, communication, and document production skills

• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• A willingness to undertake relevant training and develop your skills further
