About the role

We're looking for a Legal Assistant to join our Medical Negligence team on a full-time, permanent basis. Based in our Melbourne CBD office, this is an excellent opportunity to make your mark while supporting everyday Australians through some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Our Medical Negligence team is recognised as a leader in the field, acting in high-profile, catastrophic, complex and sensitive matters. Many members of the team have been recognised externally for their expertise, providing exceptional opportunities for learning, mentoring and professional development.

The team has successfully represented hundreds of patients and their families, securing positive outcomes across all areas of medical negligence, including coronial inquests. As a Legal Assistant, you'll work closely with experienced lawyers, providing high-quality legal and administrative support across a varied and rewarding practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Answer incoming client enquiries and assist or direct calls as appropriate.
  • Provide timely and accurate updates to clients while managing expectations.
  • Manage the administration of client files from opening through to closure.
  • Prepare client correspondence and court documents as required.
  • Coordinate diaries, appointments and meetings.
  • Process incoming mail and correspondence.
  • Prepare client bills.
  • Provide general administrative support to the team as required.

About you

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Legal Assistant to join a supportive and highly regarded law firm. You'll be organised, proactive and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment while contributing to meaningful work that makes a real difference.

Key selection criteria

  • Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Legal Secretary.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise competing tasks and work effectively under pressure.
