Welcome Home!We’re more than Canada’s largest independent hardware and building supplies retailer—we’re part of communities across the nation.  Drive Legal Excellence Behind the ScenesAs the Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for independently managing administrative legal requirements and providing support to the legal team. Led by Corporate Counsel, this opportunity will best suit someone who has a legal administrative background and strong attention to detail.  *Please note this is a 10-month term position. Ready to make an impact in a new role? Here’s how: 
  • Preparing, formatting, converting, drafting, populating templates for, and editing standard legal documents, legal correspondence and legal Dealer Application documentation (including Dealer Agreements, Guarantees, General Security Agreements, and related supporting materials), and Dealer-related materials; editing grammar, punctuation and spelling as needed.
  • Troubleshooting document issues and assisting with advanced document processing tasks, such as hyperlinks, bookmarks, cross-referencing version control, and document standardization.
  • Establishing, maintaining, updating and when necessary, revising Legal and Dealer files; tracking Dealer Application progress, supporting the end-to-end coordination of application materials, Corporate Legal Project progression and monitoring legal intake.
  • Collaborating seamlessly with Team Members to provide comprehensive support in triaging and managing legal requests and Dealer Applications; liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure timely completion of required documentation and deliverables; displaying swift responsiveness to inquiries, consistently meeting deadlines, and fostering harmonious cooperation within the Legal department and across various departments.
  • Reviewing and summarizing corporate, security, bankruptcy and other searches for Clerks and/or Counsel to review and assist with the preparation of supporting due diligence materials.
  • Managing calendar appointments and booking facilities and other meeting requirements, resolving scheduling conflicts on own initiative, managing multiple tasks, working independently and thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Performing administrative work related to files including tracking outside counsel invoices, arranging for payment of third-party invoices, maintaining accurate records, and other accounting related matters.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of standard office precedents, policies, protocols, procedures and template documentation to support operational efficiency and consistency across the Legal team.
  We’re looking for:
  • Diploma in Legal Assistant or Law Clerk/Paralegal and 1-2 years of experience.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or law department (or a similar role).
  • Extremely experienced in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook.
  • Proficient with Adobe, DocuSign and legal document management systems.
  • Familiarity with one or more legal disciplines related to Home’s business: contracts, litigation, real estate, corporate, or trademark work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy with a high attention to detail and can exercise sound judgement.
  • Approaching work with agility and the willingness to learn.  
  • The ability to be onsite three days a week at our corporate office in St. Jacobs, to accommodate our hybrid working model.
