This role is responsible for providing support from a legal perspective, and for preparing legal documents. This role describes both Corporate and Business Unit Legal Advisors.
Minimum Requirements...
- Namibian citizenship;
- NQF Level 7 Tertiary qualification in law: LLB degree;
- Own vehicle and valid driver’s licence;
- 4 – 6 years of experience in a legal environment;
- Experience and good understanding in compliance, risk and/or quality assurance as it relates to the short-term insurance industry would be an advantage;
- Must be detail and quality orientated;
- Computer literacy and good numeric skills are essential;
- Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills;
- High energy levels and be a team player;
- Good time management skills and ability to work under pressure;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative;
- Excellent verbal and written communicator with a passion for customer service and relationship building; and
- Able to engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders
Job Specification
- Provide legal support to the Claims Team as well as the Recoveries, Liability and Litigation Team.
- Consider how to improve on OMSIC Policy Wordings to reduce the likelihood of invalid claims being paid.
- Conduct or participate in litigation if required.
- Review compliance and quality assurance with legislation, regulations, practice notes and circulars applicable to OMSIC.
- Review, provide commentary and perform impact analysis of new proposed bills, regulations, practice notes and circulars applicable to OMSIC.
- Review and sign-off new OMSIC Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist with the appropriate management of legal, operational and compliance risk within OMSIC.
- Perform risk management duties, initiate and/or facilitate mitigating actions where control breaks occur or are likely to occur.
- Manage and report on Audit Findings Tracker to OMSIC and stakeholders.
- Assist the Operations Manager in establishing and embedding a culture of compliance across OMSIC through the development of compliance risk management and monitoring plans.
- Ensure that applicable legislation and compliance principles are being complied with by staff across OMSIC.
- Regularly review and monitor compliance processes as well as day-to-day compliance to legislation and regulations.
- Assist with compliance related matters pertaining to OMSIC cell captives.
- Represent OMSIC on various risk, legal and compliance forums within Old Mutual Namibia.
- Work on projects.
- Perform reviews and monitor service level agreement KPIs in OMSIC.
- Perform other ad hoc tasks as it relates to risk, compliance and quality assurance as is required.
