Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Clemson University invites applications for a 9-month, renewable, non-tenure-track teaching position at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level focusing on Neuroscience, beginning January 01, 2027 or August 15, 2027 Candidates should demonstrate commitment to the implementation of the Neuroscience minor and opportunities to expand Neuroscience curricular offerings within the current B.S. in Biological Sciences degree program. Successful candidates should also demonstrate teaching effectiveness, course design and development, commitment to undergraduate mentoring, and a desire to enhance the undergraduate experience.We encourage forward-thinking applicants who will contribute innovative ideas for new curriculum and a commitment to inclusive student engagement. Position Responsibilities:

The successful candidate should be prepared to teach core and elective neuroscience courses, with flexibility to align departmental needs with their expertise.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and teaching courses in general, anatomical, physiological, cellular and molecular, or computational neuroscience as matches with candidate’s background and training.
  • Designing and delivering effective course content
  • Assessing student learning and providing constructive feedback
  • Utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Holding regular student hours to support student success
  • Collaborating with colleagues to continuously improve the undergraduate experience

Lecturers are expected to participate in departmental service and engage in the broader academic life of the Department. The Department supports professional development and growth through the Lecturer promotion track (Lecturer → Senior Lecturer → Principal Lecturer).

About Us:

The Department of Biological Sciences, housed in the College of Science, spans several disciplines, including

  • Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology
  • Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology
  • Toxicology
  • Microbiology

We are a diverse community of 57 full-time faculty (including 21 lecturers), serving over 1,900 undergraduate majors in Biological Sciences and Microbiology (South Carolina’s only Undergraduate Microbiology program) and 220 graduate students, including:

  • M.S. and Ph.D. students in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, and Toxicology
  • Online students in the M.S. in Biological Sciences for Science Educators

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a closely related field is preferred at the time of appointment; candidates with a Masters degree in Neuroscience or a closely related field and significant classroom teaching experience will also be considered. The ideal candidates will demonstrate:

· Scientific education outreach

· A commitment to inclusive teaching practices
