About the role

The Student Matters role provides high-quality academic support and discipline-specific guidance to enhance student learning, progression, and engagement within the National School of Health Sciences. It delivers academic advising, targeted support, and contributes to foundational teaching while collaborating with academic and professional teams to improve student outcomes and retention. The role also supports scholarly initiatives focused on student success, learning support, and the overall student experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide discipline-specific academic advising on progression, enrolment planning, policies, and pathways, while monitoring student progress and supporting at-risk students with timely interventions.
• Deliver targeted academic learning support and contribute to inclusive, engaging learning environments for diverse student cohorts.
• Contribute to teaching in foundational or enabling units and support curriculum delivery aligned with program learning outcomes.
• Act as a first point of contact for student academic and wellbeing concerns, ensuring appropriate referrals and coordinated support with relevant services.
• Support scholarship and continuous improvement initiatives focused on student success, retention, and enhancement of the student experience.
• Collaborate with academic and professional stakeholders, participate in student engagement activities, and ensure consistent academic support practices across the School

Qualifications, skills & experience

• Relevant qualification in a health discipline (e.g. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Exercise, Biomedical or Health Sciences or related field).
• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration (where applicable).
• Demonstrated experience in higher education, student advising, or academic/learning support roles.
• Proven ability to support student progression, academic success, and learning development within a university setting.
• Experience contributing to teaching, or structured learning support activities (highly desirable).
• Strong understanding of tertiary academic policies, student support frameworks, and diverse learner needs
