Indiana University Bloomington (IUB) School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B) invites applications for the position of Lecturer of Exercise Science in the Department of Kinesiology. The SPH-B seeks passionate, contemporary educators who will contribute to excellence in teaching and student learning in the study and application of human movement, physical activity, exercise, and human performance, preparing students for continued education and professional careers in kinesiology, allied health, or related fields. This 10-month instructional faculty appointment is planned to start August 1, 2027. Appointment may be made at the rank of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Teaching Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is located on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. Successful candidates are expected to work on campus to allow full engagement with the department, school, university, and community.

Responsibilities and Opportunity: Non-tenure-track faculty or instructional faculty, Lecturers, are expected to substantially contribute to the overall academic excellence of the department primarily through teaching and student learning; developing, delivering, and enhancing courses and curricula within their areas of expertise; mentoring and supporting undergraduate and/or graduate students as appropriate to their assigned responsibilities; and engaging in ongoing professional development and other activities that support excellence in teaching, student learning, curriculum enhancement, and student success. The position may provide opportunities to contribute to the department through service in support of teaching and academic program delivery, such as internship coordination, experiential or service-learning initiatives, and community outreach. Notably, instructional faculty, including Lecturers, have an opportunity for promotion and advancement from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer and ultimately to the highest rank of Teaching Professor. The ideal candidate will contribute to the teaching mission of the department in exercise science, with the ability to support related areas of the curriculum including physical activity, health promotion, and pre-professional health preparation.

About Kinesiology: As a legacy program on the IUB campus, the Department of Kinesiology, with 30 full-time faculty, has a strong and growing enrollment in the undergraduate Exercise Science degree program (~1,375 students), and healthy enrollments in graduate degree programs (~75 students) including an MS in Athletic Training, MS in Kinesiology, and a PhD in Human Performance. Faculty conduct research across numerous areas including exercise physiology (with historical excellence in environmental and clinical exercise physiology), biomechanics, sport neurotrauma, athletic training neuromuscular/motor control, physical activity and fitness interventions, with the latter including youth sport-based approaches to health and well-being. Finally, the department supports the Physical Activity Instruction Program, an extensive fitness and sport focused academic service program.

About SPH-B: The SPH-B is in the heart of the Bloomington campus and comprises five collaborative academic departments with 300 faculty and staff. Basic Qualifications

Qualifications: A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or master’s degree in exercise science or a closely related field (e.g., public health, physical therapy, etc.) that aligns with the department’s teaching needs. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or professional experience in the field. Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching skills and the ability to contribute to high-quality instruction and student learning in their area of expertise. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and students are required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to contribute to curriculum development, instructional innovation, student mentoring, and other activities that support the teaching mission of the department and school, as appropriate to their assigned responsibilities. Candidates for appointments at the Senior Lecturer or Teaching Professor rank must demonstrate teaching experience and accomplishments appropriate to the proposed rank. Appointment at the Senior Lecturer or Teaching Professor rank will require evidence of accomplishments and experience consistent with Indiana University criteria for the proposed rank.
