The School of Education (Fremantle and Sydney) offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including initial teacher education for early childhood, primary and secondary teachers, and postgraduate programs in early childhood, leadership and management, curriculum, special learning needs and religious education.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to make contributions to the scholarly teaching, research and leadership efforts of the University of Notre Dame Australia. The successful candidate will teach, coordinate and lead courses and programs inLanguage and Literacy Education in NationalEarly Childhood andInitial Teacher Education and post graduate degreesand ensure alignment with the Accreditation of initial teacher education programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures.

The successful candidate will also carry out scholarly research, supervise HDR students, and take up professional activities relevant to promoting knowledge about language and literacy that supports learner’s capacities to participate incommunities within and beyond school. This position reports to the National Head of School, Education.

Level B (Lecturer)

A level B Academic Staff Member is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of the institution and to carry out activities to maintain and develop their scholarly, research and/or professional service activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, design and teach in courses in Language and Literacy Education at undergraduate and postgraduate programsin teacher education.
  • Develop, lead and maintain a research agenda relevant to the role that builds collaborations within and beyond the University.
  • Demonstrate active and constructive participation inService activities that support the smooth running of the School, Faculty and University.
  • Ensure courses and programs are aligned withexternalAccreditation Standards and Procedures
  • Lead in the Language and Literacy Education field through collaborations with schools, school systems, and community groups.
  • Supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.
  • Comply with and promote safe working practices as set out in University policy.

Qualifications, skills & experience

Essential

  • A Doctoral qualification relevant to knowledge about Language and LiteracyEducation.
  • Demonstrated skills/knowledge/experience relevant to Language and LiteracyEducation,its role in becoming literate within and beyond educational settings, and resourcesthatsupportliteracy proficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate qualitylanguage and literacyteachingin teacher education programsat the universitylevel.
  • Knowledge of current trends and key issues relevant to research and practice inLanguage and Literacy Education.
  • A record of research activity, collaborations and outputs relative to opportunity related to Language and Literacy Education.
  • Experience teaching in the primaryand/or secondaryschool sector.
  • Demonstrated support of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and support for implementing the AITSL Standards and Procedures for the accreditation of initial teacher education programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capacity for teamwork and collaboration with colleagues, students, teacher, and practitioners in the field.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience researching and teaching language and literacy in early childhood education.
  • The role of play inthedevelopmentof language and literacy.
  • Knowledge and experience working across multisite locations.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary teams.
