Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
As a Lecturer in Law, you will contribute to teaching, research and service activities within Te Piringa Faculty of Law. You will play an important role in delivering high-quality legal education while building your research profile and supporting student success.
Key responsibilities include:
Teaching and coordinating undergraduate and postgraduate law papers, including compulsory courses within the LLB programme.
Supervising honours and postgraduate students and supporting student learning and achievement.
Developing and maintaining an active programme of legal research and scholarly publication.
Building research collaborations and contributing to research funding opportunities.
Participating in Faculty administration, community engagement and professional service activities.
Salary will be in the range of $92,603 to $110,407 per year based on skills, knowledge and experience brought to the position. This is a permanent position based at the University of Waikato's Tauranga campus. You will bring:
An LLB or JD and an LLM (or equivalent qualification and professional standing); a PhD is highly desirable.
Experience teaching in tertiary education and the ability to engage students through innovative teaching approaches.
Evidence of research capability and a commitment to developing a strong programme of scholarly activity.
The ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, academic administration and collaborative projects.
Strong communication, relationship-building and organisational skills, together with a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an inclusive learning environment.
You will thrive in a collegial academic environment where teaching excellence, research impact and community engagement are highly valued.

Te Piringa Faculty of Law is founded on the principles of biculturalism, professionalism and the study of law in context. As part of Te Rakau Kotahi – School of Law, Politics and Philosophy, the Faculty is recognised for its innovative and socially relevant approach to legal education.
The Faculty delivers accredited legal education through its Bachelor of Laws programme and offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional programmes. Areas of particular strength include Māori Governance, Public Policy and Practice, Cyber and New Technology Law, and Environmental Law.
