Sandwell College is looking for a passionate and industry-experienced Lecturer in Hair & Beauty to join our vibrant and growing Hair and Beauty department. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic educator or industry professional who is committed to delivering high-quality teaching and inspiring students to achieve their full potential.

Reporting to the Head of Section, you will be responsible for delivering and developing beauty courses, providing engaging teaching, learning and assessment opportunities in line with awarding body requirements, and supporting students throughout their learner journey.

Key Responsibilities


  • Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across Hair & Beauty programmes
  • Develop and plan engaging curriculum content and learning materials
  • Support student progress through effective tutorial support, target setting and reviews
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous quality improvement
  • Promote positive learner outcomes including attendance, retention and achievement
  • Use ILT and multimedia learning resources effectively within teaching practice
  • Participate in industry CPD and staff development activities
  • Support enrichment activities, open evenings, interviews and enrolment events
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure high-quality course delivery and learner support

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification within Hair & Beauty or a related subject area
  • A Level 3 Hair and Beauty qualification
  • A teaching qualification (Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification) or willingness to work towards one
  • Experience of delivering excellent teaching, learning and assessment within the beauty sector
  • Strong organisational, communication and administrative skills
  • The ability to inspire, motivate and support learners from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience of preparing engaging learning materials and using ILT effectively
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safeguarding
  • The ability to work flexibly across sites and support college events when required
  • A collaborative and professional approach with a commitment to continuous improvement

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998)

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

Central Campus Sandwell College is one of the newest FE Colleges in the UK and is a landmark for the development of education and training in the region.
