Compensation: £26,661 - £48,160 / year

We have full-time and part-time opportunities for enthusiastic and inspiring Lecturers in Applied Science & AS Biology to join our A-Level team at Central Saint Michael’s campus on a fixed-term basis. These are exciting opportunities for passionate educators to deliver high-quality teaching across BTEC Applied Science (Level 3) and AS-Level Biology, supporting learners to achieve their full potential.

You will play a key role in delivering engaging lessons, supporting student progress, and contributing to the ongoing development of the curriculum. Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you will help create an outstanding learning experience that promotes achievement, progression, and student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across BTEC Applied Science (Level 3) and AS-Level Biology (OCR)
  • Plan and develop schemes of work, lesson materials, and assessments in line with curriculum requirements
  • Provide academic and pastoral support as a course tutor, monitoring learner progress and achievement
  • Maintain accurate records for academic, administrative, and assessment purposes
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching and learning
  • Use Information Learning Technology (ILT) and multimedia resources to enhance the learning experience
  • Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Participate in team meetings, standardisation activities, and quality processes
  • Attend key college events such as open evenings, interviews, and parent meetings
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and external partners to support learner success

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Degree in a relevant science subject (or equivalent professional qualification)
  • Teaching qualification (Certificate in Education or Level 5 qualification), or willingness to work towards
  • Experience delivering Applied Science and/or Biology qualifications
  • Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices
  • Experience developing engaging learning materials
  • Ability to use ILT effectively to support teaching and communication

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998)

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
  • Masters in Education
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

Central Campus Sandwell College is one of the newest FE Colleges in the UK and is a landmark for the development of education and training in the region.
