About the opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Exercise and Sports Sciences to join the multidisciplinary School of Health Sciences. As part of UTAS Health, the School of Health Sciences is strongly partnered with other Health Academic Units including the Tasmanian School of Medicine, School of Psychological Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, School of Nursing, School of Paramedicine, Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, and the Menzies Institute for Medical Research.

What you’ll do:

  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake high-quality scholarly coursework teaching, including unit coordination, development of teaching materials, delivery of teaching and student assessment, including the utilisation of emerging technologies and simulation-based education, and develop leadership capabilities in learning and teaching.
  • Design and facilitate high-quality learning experiences that align with and support the University of Tasmania Graduate Capability Framework, embedding relevant graduate capabilities within curriculum design, delivery, assessment and student learning.
  • As part of a team and with increasing independence, undertake high-quality research in areas of priority, contribute to securing external competitive and other funding, publish research findings, and contribute to the supervision of research higher degree students, in line with the University's research performance expectations for Level B.
  • Develop and maintain productive and effective links within the University and externally with the discipline, profession, industry and community stakeholders.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the supervisor.­

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in university-level curriculum development using flexible and innovative learning and teaching approaches, including practical demonstration, simulation-based education, blended delivery and digital technologies.
  • Experience delivering high-quality coursework learning and teaching, including unit coordination, assessment design, quality assurance activities and continuous improvement processes aligned with course learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in motor learning and control, biomechanics, exercise physiology, healthspan and behaviour change, exercise assessment and screening, and/or exercise programming. Expertise in other areas such as sport and exercise psychology, health promotion, growth and development, and functional anatomy is desirable.
  • Demonstrated capacity to embed Systems Thinking and Analysis, Adaptive Professional Excellence, Transformative Change Agency for Holistic Sustainability, Creative Innovation and Cultural Expression, and Relational Intelligence and Personal Agency into learning experiences.
  • A growing record of research achievement and an emerging national profile in health and human performance, demonstrated through quality publications, conference presentations, contributions to externally funded research, and the translation of evidence into practice and/or curriculum.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, including the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary academic teams.
  • Experience contributing to productive relationships within the University and with discipline, professional, industry and community stakeholders at local and national levels.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level B and will have a total remuneration package of up to $155,885 comprising base salary within the range of $114,766 to $133,235 plus 17% superannuation.
