Job Summary:

Position Title: Lecturer

Position Duties: As a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (Troy, NY). The lecturer position is responsible for preparing and teaching relevant undergraduate and graduate courses as needed during the academic year.

Specifically, this position will perform the following duties:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses;
• Conduct research, which includes submitting proposals and writing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals;
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students in their curriculum; and
• Advise and mentor undergraduate, graduate students, and postdocs in research.

The Lecturer position may teach the following courses, among other courses:

• MANE 4500 - Modeling and Control of Dynamic Systems: Introduction to modeling, analysis, and control of dynamic systems. Modeling of mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems. Time-domain and Laplace-Transform solutions. Block diagrams and transfer functions.
• MANE 4230 - Air Vehicle Design: Includes elements of initial sizing and weights, geometry selection, aerodynamic design, propulsion integration, stability and control, loads, structural design, materials, manufacturability, and cost analysis. Writing-intensive assignments help develop communication skills.
• MANE 4920 - Aerospace Structures and Control Laboratory: Laboratory experiments with primary emphasis on lightweight structures, structural dynamics, and control as it applies to

aircraft and spacecraft. Experiments include elastic instability, linear and nonlinear structural vibrations, gyro-dynamics, spacecraft stability, the role of materials (including composites), etc.

• MANE 4060 – Aerospace Structures and Materials: Beam structures under combined shear, bending, and torsional loads. Semi-monocoque structures: idealizations involving wings, ribs, and fuselage bulkheads. Effects of taper and cutouts in stiffened shell structures, shear deformations and warping, location of elastic axis in open and closed sections, torsion of multicell sections. Stability of beam and membrane elements. Material considerations and selection.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Aeronautical Engineering or a related field.

Rate of Pay Range: $67,280 to $80,000 per year
