Title Lecturer, 3D Animation and Visual Effects Appointment Status Non-Tenure Track Department IU Indianapolis Department of Human-Centered Computing – Luddy School Location Indianapolis Position Summary

The Department of Human-Centered Computing, Indiana University Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IU Indianapolis, invites applicants for a Lecturer appointment in the area of 3D Animation and Visual Effects. Exceptional instructors are being sought to join our fast-growing department.

The responsibilities of the position include teaching assigned courses in the Media Arts and Science program, developing courses for the traditional classroom setting, computer labs and for online education; help setting program and specialization goals, developing and continually updating the curriculum and training activities; contributing to the recruitment and marketing of the program; interviewing, evaluating and advising students; engaging in scholarly activity that enhances teaching and learning; serving as a member of the Luddy School in Indianapolis, departmental and programs committees; maintaining current knowledge and skillset in the animation, vfx, real-time, and this quickly evolving AI integrated profession through active participation in professional organizations, collaboration, practice and research; and serving on professional committees. The appointment will begin August 1, 2027, at the IU Indianapolis campus.

This position entails a standard teaching load of four courses per semester, with a distribution of effort consisting of 80% teaching and 20% service responsibilities. Also, this is an in-person faculty appointment requiring full-time on-campus presence. Salary is competitive based on experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications

Requirements for this appointment include a master’s degree, preferably in a field related to directly to 3D design, computer generated filmmaking, visual effects and or real-time game pipelines. The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of industry experience in animation and adjacent industries, as well as comprehensive and extensive knowledge and experience in using the latest technologies integrating 3D into film, games, and XR pipelines, including generative and agentic pipeline exploration. Demonstrated ability to teach and learn new trends to keep our students competitive and comfortable becoming lifelong innovators.
