Job Description

The Program in Statistical and Data Sciences and the Journalism Concentrationat Smith College, in conjunction with the Jacobson Center for Writing, Teaching & Learning, invite applications for a 3-year, half-time, benefits eligible position at the rank of Lecturerto begin July 1, 2026 Teaching responsibilities for this position include three courses per academic year, which will regularly include data journalism, the journalism capstone or introductory course, and a third course in the candidate’s area of specialization. All courses will be taught in person on Smith’s campus in Northampton, MA. Candidates should be practicing journalists and have experience in data analysis, with proficiency in R preferredMaster’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is expected by the time of appointment. In addition to a competitive benefits package, starting pay range for this position is typically between $37,100-$38,100. Actual compensation will vary based on individual qualifications.
