The Leaves Specialist provides expertise on all aspects of leave administration and applicable organization policies; ensures compliance with all applicable laws. Interacts with vendor leave administrator; coordinates sick leave, state disability and long term disability. Partners with appropriate parties on the ADA interactive process related to leaves. Interprets established practice policies and guidelines. Delivers responsive and caring customer service to employees, managers, and others, with primary focus on the Leave of Absence administration, including the Return-to-Work ("RTW") process. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Associate's Degree required. Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of Degree. Minimum two years of Human Resources leave of absence program experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Thorough knowledge of Federal and State laws including FLSA, FEHA, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADAAA and USERRA. Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, ability to prioritize work, problem-solving skills and knowledge of the underlying goals and responsibilities. Performs other duties as needed. Computer proficient, i.e., Highly proficient in word processing software, knowledge of spreadsheets and data base programs, including Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PeopleSoft, PowerPoint; PeopleSoft. Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality, work in fast paced environment and maintain positive attitude. Able to communicate with individuals, small and large groups, and demonstrate basic facilitation skills; Able to demonstrate excellent oral/writing skills and excellent listening skills in English, in person, in writing, and on the telephone. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills for dealing with sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations while maintaining strict confidentiality. Able to accept direction; be a team player; collaborate; organize and prioritize workloads; pay close attention to detail; problem solve; recall information; manage multiple assignments simultaneously; recognize and synthesize competing or overlapping policies and legislation; think critically; anticipate and prevent potential conflicts; be assertive and consistent in following or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure. Must be able to perform basic math functions. Must work independently with minimal supervision, and conceptualize new and effective ways of performing job duties. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Professional Human Resource (PHR) certification preferred.
