The Bellefonte Area School District is seeking a Teacher to educate all students to use knowledge, values, and skills to function effectively as citizens of our society, by providing a nurturing and stimulating environment in cooperation with community, parents, and innovative curriculum

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan for standards-based lessons that are challenging, rigorous, and purposeful.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy which enables students to meet or exceed academic standards.
  • Selects instructional goals that are aligned with academic standards and within the district's established curriculum.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of resources.
  • Designs coherent instruction.
  • Assesses student learning and accurately maintains student data.
  • Creates an environment of respect and rapport.
  • Manage classroom procedures and student behavior.
  • Collaborate with teachers to incorporate 21st Century Literacy Skills into lessons, co-teaching when available.
  • To perform other professional duties as assigned by the building principal.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Special Education
  • Preferred: Master's degree in related field

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum:
    • Strong academic preparation and evidence of a rigorous teacher preparation program
    • Experience with instructional technology
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Preferred:
    • Prior teaching experience
    • Experience working with students with behavioral/emotional needs

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • Pennsylvania teaching certification
      • K-12 or K-8 Special Education Certification
    • Attachment of PRAXIS and Letter of Eligibility from graduating college/university is required in lieu of PA Certificate until actual PA Certificate is available.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, state and government regulations. Ability to effectively present information using a variety of media and respond to questions from students, administrators, staff, and general public. Possesses a thorough and current knowledge of curriculum and effective teaching practices,

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to calculate various statistical procedures and interpret same.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and to develop and implement action plans. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of curriculum documents and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with parents, community, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of individuals and gain respect and support of others.
  • Demonstrate a positive and caring nature towards children.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Personal integrity, sense of humor, good character, and emotional stability.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Ability to hear with 40 decibel loss maximum. Some bending and twisting of the body is required.
