ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Learning Specialist provides academic support to students across various colleges and departments at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. This includes coordinating and delivering personalized academic counseling, coaching on learning strategies, and conducting workshops on time management, test-taking, study skills, stress management, and board preparation. This position helps students navigate the rigorous demands of the health science curriculum, offering guidance on issues such as organization, test anxiety, and exam preparation. This position also involves evaluating and improving support services based on student feedback
Develops personalized learning plans for each student, monitors and adjusts strategies based on progress, and maintains comprehensive records of all interactions.
Meets with students individually or in groups to provide academic coaching and skill enhancement.
Collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to identify the needs of colleges and programs.
Assist in the development and implementation of small group workshops
Develop learning resources and activities tailored to the needs of students across all colleges.
Tracks student usage of Academic Success Services, maintaining accurate records and preparing monthly and annual reports, and utilizes software to schedule appointments and track and analyze students and learning resources on a variety of academic success topics.
Support the Campus-Wide Tutoring Program as needed.
Organizes and implements outreach initiatives to raise awareness of Academic Success services among UT Health Science Center faculty, staff, and student groups.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Higher Education/Student Affairs, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of experience providing coaching, mentoring, advising, instruction, training, or support services that promote student learning, development, and growth. Experience developing resources and facilitating workshops or presentations for individuals or groups.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
