Job Description

About OzHarvest:

OzHarvest is a leading food rescue organisation on a mission to ‘Nourish our Country’ by stopping good food from going to waste and delivering it to charities that help feed people in need. Through our education programs and our advocacy work, we hope to inspire others to change behaviour and help reach the national target of halving food waste by 2030.

About the Role:

We're looking for an experienced L&D, HR or project whiz to lead a piece of work that will shape how our people grow for years to come. Over the past three years, OzHarvest has built a genuine reputation for investing in our people — now we want to take stock, listen hard, and chart what comes next.

In this project-based role, you'll review what we've delivered, get under the skin of what our people and our mission need going forward, and hand us a clear, leadership-ready three-year L&D strategy. You'll work closely with our People & Culture team, Management Team and Senior Leadership Team, and you'll have a volunteer L&D expert on hand who's walked this path before and is ready to help you hit the ground running.

This is flexible, part-time work on a fixed-term contract — built for someone who wants their thinking, not just their hours, to make the difference.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit our L&D programs from the past three years — participation, completion, engagement, what actually landed
  • Gather feedback from P&C and the wider workforce to evaluate what worked and what didn't
  • Deliver a clear-eyed L&D review: what we did, what we learned, where the gaps are
  • Work with P&C, MTeam and SLT to surface our current and future capability needs
  • Review Vibe survey results, continuous conversation themes and exit data to identify learning priorities
  • Assess our current LMS and the systems that support it
  • Benchmark our L&D offering against best practice and comparable organisations
  • Build a three-year L&D strategy — priorities, delivery modalities, and an implementation roadmap with timeframes, budget and success measures
  • Present your findings to the Head of People & Culture, then the P&C team, then the MTeam, for endorsement

Personal Specifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experienced L&D, project management or HR professional, with relevant qualifications
  • A track record of delivering organisational reviews, needs assessments or strategy development
  • Strong project management skills — able to independently manage scope, timeline and deliverables
  • Excellent report writing and stakeholder presentation skills
  • Experience with learning frameworks and platforms (e.g. Allara, Employment Hero)
  • Comfortable with research, data analysis and consultation as the backbone of good strategy
  • Willingness to obtain a valid Police Check

Personal Abilities and Aptitudes:

  • A strong commitment and enthusiasm toward the purpose of OzHarvest
  • A can-do, will-do attitude
  • Motivational and inspirational, genuinely yourself in how you work and communicate
  • A self starter, who knows what to do and how to do it well
  • Energetic, positive and proactive
  • Resilient, adaptable and comfortable in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Committed to fun, compassion, and getting it right for our people

To apply:

Please follow through the online application process and attach your CV, a cover letter, and include a message as to "Why would you like to lead OzHarvest's next chapter of learning, and why this role?" (creativity encouraged!).

Please note that only applications with a cover letter addressing the question above will be shortlisted.

OzHarvest is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that supports diversity, inclusion and belonging. Please note: If you have a Language or Cultural special consideration, a disability or impairment or use assistive technology, please let us know in your Cover Letter when applying. You can ask a support person to help you through the application and interview process.

About OzHarvest

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to ‘Nourish our Country’. Our mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect our planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society. The impact of our work is strongly aligned to achieving five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

OzHarvest is best known for our iconic yellow food rescue vans which save over 250 tonnes of good food every week and deliver it direct to charities that feed people in need. We’re also creating positive change through three national education programs (FEAST, NEST and Nourish), and through our advocacy work raising awareness about food security and doing whatever we can to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030.

Innovation is part of our DNA and we’re always looking to add value to what we do and find new ways to tackle food waste and feed hungry people. We’re pioneering social impact projects from free supermarkets (OzHarvest Market) and a restaurant (Refettorio OzHarvest) that feeds people in need and creating revenue generating products via OzHarvest Ventures. Our unique for-impact, food rescue model has been implemented across the globe in New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Vietnam and Japan.

Every $1 donated allows OzHarvest to deliver 2 meals to people in need.
