Job Description

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband and digital solutions.

As a Learning Designer, you will be responsible for creating engaging, learner-centred experiences that build capability across Optus and support key business priorities. Working closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and learning partners, you will transform complex business needs into impactful learning solutions that drive performance, behavioural change, and measurable outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced learning professional who combines creativity, instructional design expertise, and digital learning innovation to deliver learning at scale.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and develop end-to-end learning solutions across digital, virtual, and face-to-face formats, from needs analysis and storyboarding through to delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify capability gaps and translate complex concepts into engaging, practical, and learner-focused experiences.
  • Leverage learning technologies, AI-enabled tools, and modern instructional design practices to create scalable learning solutions that drive behaviour change and business performance.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness through data, analytics, stakeholder feedback, and learner insights, using findings to optimise programs and improve outcomes.

What You Bring

  • Extensive experience in instructional design and end-to-end learning solution development, with a strong track record of delivering high-impact capability programs.
  • Expertise in adult learning principles, behavioural change methodologies, and creating engaging learner experiences that translate into measurable performance outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and consulting skills, with experience partnering with senior leaders, business stakeholders, and subject matter experts to deliver learning solutions.
  • Experience using digital learning technologies, authoring tools (Articulate 360, Storyline & RISE), and AI-enabled solutions to design, develop, and scale learning programs. Experience working in regulated or compliance-focused environments will be highly regarded.
  • A strong understanding of accessible learning and inclusive design principles. Experience applying accessibility standards, such as WCAG 2.2 AA, to learning design and development will be highly regarded.
  • Strong graphic design and visual communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging and visually polished learning experiences. Video editing / animation skills will be a great advantage.

The good stuff….

  • Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Build meaningful connections through employee-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon.

At Optus, we are strengthened by others and that means valuing diversity and saying ‘yes’ to embracing individual differences. We are committed to ensuring that our application process provides an equal employment opportunity to all job seekers, including individuals from diverse gender, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, individuals with a disability, individuals identifying as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals who may have served in the armed forces or who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
