Job Description

UE06: £34,610 – 39,906 per annum pro rata

USG / Student Recruitment and Admissions / LEAPS

Guaranteed Hours (Mon - Thurs, between August and November 2026)

Fixed term: 1st August 2026 – 31st July 2027 (may be able to give more hours for the same project in 2027, subject to funding)

The Opportunity:

LEAPS are advertising for a new interviewer to help us carry out our Pre-UCAS Interview programme.

Our Pre-UCAS Interviews aim to help students to consider their college and university options, in light of their S5 results and their S6 curriculum, working towards making strong and strategic UCAS and/or HNC/D applications. Interviews also focus on personal statements and back-up plans, while encouraging students to undertake their own research and attend open days.

We are looking for someone to cover City of Edinburgh high schools. Ideally someone who, after completing their own course in Higher Education, has employment experience which has included advising and/or interviewing school, college or university students in an educational setting. For example, as a careers adviser, guidance teacher, college adviser or university admissions, recruitment or widening participation officer.

Candidates don’t need to know everything about Higher Education, as there will be access to training and resources, but candidates do need to understand how applications to college and university work and be able to advise on sensible strategies to help build strong applications. Candidates should enjoy working with young people in an advisory capacity and want to help them to succeed.

As LEAPS is a widening participation project, candidates should be positive about the concept of widening participation and want to be part of this kind of work.
