Job Description

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Not everyone is cut out to lead from the front.

We're looking for a Drainage Leading Hand who can roll up their sleeves, jump in with the crew when needed and keep an eye on the bigger picture. This is a role for someone who enjoys getting the job done, bringing people together and taking pride in delivering work that keeps Auckland's infrastructure performing at its best.

You'll be responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing drainage works, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. From reactive maintenance and repairs through to planned works, you'll help manage day-to-day operations while providing guidance, support and leadership to your crew.

Working closely with Supervisors, clients, subcontractors and stakeholders, you'll ensure work is delivered to contract requirements while maintaining strong customer relationships. You'll also play an important role in developing team capability through coaching, training and mentoring, helping create a high-performing crew that looks out for one another and takes pride in quality workmanship.

This role offers a great mix of leadership and hands-on work. One minute you could be planning resources and coordinating work programmes, the next you'll be on-site helping solve a problem, supporting your team and keeping the project moving.

If you enjoy leading by example, thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to make a genuine impact on both people and projects, we'd love to hear from you.

Mōu koe | About You

You will bring:

  • At least three years' experience in drainage, water, wastewater or civil construction environments
  • Proven experience leading crews or stepping up to coordinate and support team delivery
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to work alongside your team when required
  • Experience coaching, mentoring and developing others in the field
  • Confidence liaising with customers, residents, clients and stakeholders
  • A strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement
  • Full Class 1 licence, with Class 2, WTR or digger operating experience highly regarded
  • Relevant industry qualifications in drainage, water, wastewater or civil works advantageous

You're someone people naturally look to for direction. You stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly and know how to get the best out of those around you. Most importantly, you take pride in delivering work safely, efficiently and to a high standard every time.
