We’re looking for a Leading Hand to join our South Urban branch in Auckland. You’ll help lead day-to-day civil maintenance and construction work across public and private infrastructure, from road repairs and pavement works to drainage and asset maintenance. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help deliver safe, high-quality outcomes that keep Auckland moving.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
You’ll work at the frontline, supporting the delivery of civil maintenance and construction activities across Fulton Hogan’s South Urban branch in Auckland. You’ll help manage daily workflow on site, operate machinery, guide field crews, and step into the Supervisor role when needed. The work is varied and hands-on, covering everything from pavement repairs and roading maintenance to drainage, asset renewals, and emergency response.
Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities
Support daily civil maintenance and construction work across roading, pavement and drainage.
Lead by example on site and help coordinate crews and subcontractors.
Operate machinery and equipment you’re trained and licensed to use.
Carry out hands-on tasks like resurfacing, chipsealing, pavement repairs and general site work.
Complete daily checks to keep machinery, equipment and work areas safe and ready.
Follow site safety, quality and environmental requirements, and speak up when something is not right.
Assist with maintenance and upgrades of stormwater, wastewater and roading assets.
Help respond to incidents, urgent works and emergency callouts.

Class 2 licence with W, T and R endorsements.
Hands-on experience in civil construction, roading, maintenance or a similar role.
Experience as a Leading Hand or leading a crew on site.
Experience working around live traffic and understanding site traffic management.
STMS Level 1 and First Aid certificate preferred.
Confident supporting workflow, guiding others and stepping up when needed.
Practical, proactive and comfortable working outdoors in different conditions.
Who is confident on the machinery, ie digger, roller & loader.
