We’re looking for a Leading Hand to join our Construction Team in Petone. You’ll lead and support a busy crew delivering high‑quality work, helping us keep critical water infrastructure running smoothly for the local community.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll be the key link between management and the crews out on site. You’ll work in an outdoor, practical environment, planning work, supervising staff and jumping on the tools when needed. Your focus will be on delivering safe, efficient and high‑quality maintenance outcomes that keep our water networks operating reliably.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading from the front, solving problems on the job and taking ownership to make things happen.

Ngā kawenga matua | Key responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise maintenance crews to safely deliver day‑to‑day work

  • Plan, coordinate and assign tasks, resources and machinery for each job

  • Take part in pre-start meetings and risk assessments before work begins

  • Work alongside the team undertaking machinery operation and labouring tasks

  • Check plant, vehicles and equipment to ensure they’re in safe, reliable working order

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients and your team to resolve issues on site

Kei te kimi mātou i tētahi e whai ana i ēnei pūkenga | We’re looking for someone with

  • Current New Zealand Class 2 licence and WTR endorsements

  • Level 4 Water qualification

  • Drain laying Qualification

  • Proven experience in water infrastructure or similar civil maintenance work

  • Strong communication and practical leadership experience with small teams

  • A solid commitment to health, safety and quality on every job

  • A positive, can‑do attitude and willingness to get stuck in on the tools
