We are looking for an experienced and motivated Leading Hand Mechanic to join our small team and help lead the day-to-day operation of our busy workshop.
The role is ideal for a skilled mechanic who enjoys hands-on work while guiding and supporting a team. You will work closely with the fleet and equipment supervisor to ensure our fleet is maintained safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
You'll lead a dedicated team of mechanics and apprentices combining your technical know-how with leadership skills to deliver top-quality results. If you're a natural problem-solver who enjoys mentoring others and takes pride in a job well done, this role is for you.
Competitive base rate of $57.50 per hour

Oversee and maintain fleet compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards and company policies.
Lead daily toolbox meetings with your team
Allocate routine and corrective maintenance tasks to keep the fleet running smoothly
Support and mentor your mechanics to meet deadlines whilst maintaining high standards
Conduct quality assurance checks and sign off completed work orders
Review driver-reported faults and coordinate repairs to minimise downtime
Champion safety protocols and continuously improve workshop practices
Foster a respectful, supportive team environment where everyone can thrive
Work alongside the site supervisor to manage resources and maximise productivity
Australian recognised Heavy Vehicle trade qualification
Solid mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience on Volvo, Isuzu, and Iveco drivetrains
HR licence
Previous waste industry experience and familiarity with S/Pak, Bucher, West-Trans bodies (highly desirable but not essential)
Strong communication skills - you can explain things clearly and listen well
A positive, can-do attitude with a genuine interest in developing your team
