What you’ll be doing

As Leader, Group Workers Compensation, you will provide strategic leadership for Workers Compensation across the Virgin Australia Group. You will lead a specialist team, partner with third party administrators, and oversee workers compensation portfolios across Comcare self insurance and state based schemes.

Balancing strategic foresight with operational excellence, you’ll ensure legislative compliance, financial sustainability, and best practice injury management, all while embedding a customer centric, early intervention approach that supports our people to recover and return to meaningful work.

Reporting to the Head of People Safety, you will:

  • Act as the Workers Compensation subject matter expert, advising senior leaders on risk, compliance, emerging trends and significant claims
  • Lead, inspire and develop a high performing team with a strong service mindset
  • Ensure full compliance with Comcare and state based legislation across all jurisdictions
  • Maintain and enhance the Group’s Comcare self insurance licence, including audit readiness, actuarial requirements, provisions, bank guarantees and XOL arrangements
  • Monitor legislative change and ensure timely implementation across systems, processes and training
  • Provide oversight of complex and litigated claims, partnering with legal providers and internal stakeholders
  • Hold third party claims administrators accountable through performance monitoring, reviews and SLAs
  • Drive financially sustainable outcomes through claims strategy, estimate reviews, performance analysis and proactive risk management
  • Drive clear, insightful reporting to senior leaders, actuaries, insurers and regulators

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Degree in Allied Health or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in Workers Compensation across Comcare and state based schemes
  • Strong understanding of self insurance models and regulatory frameworks
  • Proven experience leading teams and delivering outcomes in a complex, multi stakeholder environment
  • 5-10 years experience in rehabilitation, case management or injury management (aviation industry experience desirable)
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior and executive levels
  • Strong people leadership with a collaborative, inclusive approach
  • Confidence navigating complex legislation, claims strategy and financial performance
  • Analytical and strategic mindset with the ability to turn insight into action
