As a Lead Worker – Janitorial, you will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality custodial services while mentoring and supporting team members with significant disabilities. Through your leadership, coaching, and hands-on support, you'll help employees build valuable workplace skills, confidence, and opportunities for career growth within our organization. This position combines leadership and hands-on custodial work, spending approximately 50% of the time assisting the Janitorial Supervisor with leading the team and 50% performing janitorial duties.

What You Will Do

  • Assist the Janitorial Supervisor in coordinating daily custodial operations and ensuring contract requirements are met.
  • Lead, train, mentor, and support janitorial team members, including individuals with disabilities.
  • Assign daily work, distribute supplies and equipment, and inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are achieved.
  • Provide coaching on proper cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
  • Address employee and customer concerns, resolving issues when appropriate and escalating to management as needed.
  • Perform routine custodial duties including:
  • Cleaning offices, hallways, restrooms, stairwells, and common areas
  • Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors using manual and powered equipment.
  • Cleaning windows, doors, fixtures, and other building surfaces.
  • Emptying trash and replenishing restroom and janitorial supplies.
  • Operate custodial equipment and, when required, snow removal equipment.
  • Perform snow and ice removal during inclement weather, including applying ice melt to walkways and entrances when required by contract.
  • Complete required training and maintain compliance with all Didlake policies and safety procedures.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment while maintaining professional conduct and appearance.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one (1) year of recent commercial custodial or facility maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or mentoring employees preferred.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, products, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Experience operating custodial equipment, including floor care machines; snow removal equipment experience is a plus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to read, write, and understand basic instructions and documentation.
  • Ability to lead, by example with professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to train, coach, and reinforce standard operating procedures and safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals with disabilities.
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, initiative, and commitment to deliver quality service.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while meeting performance and quality standards.
