Position Responsibilities
Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Complies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals,policiesand procedures. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legaldocumentation.
Isdesignatedthe Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the facility.
Operates to the best possible standards providing uninterrupted operation.
Monitors wastewater plant systems, ancillary equipment and the chemical composition of the influent,effluentand internal process streams; makes necessary adjustments to ensure operation is within established guidelines.
Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures.
Performs preventive maintenance and repairsin accordance withmanufacturer’s specifications on all systems including belt press, blowers, pumps,valvesand piping.
Willingness to carry a radio or pager for after hour’s callout’s
Completes maintenance records and documents all maintenance performed andmaintainsoperating logbooks and databases asrequired
Collects and analyzes raw waste, performs chemical, biological and physical analysis andmaintainsa thorough knowledge of the composition of the influent,effluentand internal process streams.
Monitors wastewater effluentmaking adjustmentsas necessary to ensure effluent quality standards are met or exceeded.
Oversees or performs all laboratory testing.
Accountable for the proper operation and maintenance of the wastewater plant for compliance with applicable regulations and/or permit requirements, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
Maintains cleanliness of wastewater plant.
Ensures efficient and economical operation of station wastewater treatment equipment.
Completes maintenance records;maintainslaboratory and operating logbooks and databases asrequired
Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts,assembliesandconsumables.
Maintainsinventory accuracy at 98% or better.
Ability to work alone or within a team depending on situation.
Advises theUtilities Supervisor or their on-ice representativeof the status of water production equipment and systems.
Coordinates with the Utilities Supervisor or their on-ice representative to order repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies,toolsand consumables.
Willingness to work a rotating shift; day,swingor night shift
Performs duties in support of division metrics (as provided by supervisor).
Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s work activities.
Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
Interprets project taskingutilizingdesign drawings,specificationsand diagrams.
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.)in accordance withmanagement policy and with the highest degree of professionalism.
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their subordinates as needed to relay information they needin order tobe successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
May berequiredto work outside on various jobsites in extremecold weatherand environmentally challenging conditions.
Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation,militaryand other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person. Is kind, courteous,cooperativeand professionalat all times
Participate in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.

RequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses
High School diploma orGED
Colorado Class “B” Certification (or other states’ equivalent)
Minimum 6 months of Supervisor or Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) experience
Experience working in an Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant
ExpectedSkills and Competencies:
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once isrequired
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the maintenance and operation of activated sludge treatment plants isrequired
Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to activatedsludgetreatment plants isrequired
Ability tomaintaina professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment isrequired
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred
Previousexperience with remote Polar Logistics operations is preferred.
Two years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Operator preferred.
Physical and/or Other Requirements
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold
Mustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship isrequiredfor facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
