Lead Volleyball Instructor / Referee

Department: Sports

Reports to: Sports & Programs Director

Position: Part-Time

Primary Focus: Youth Volleyball

Position Overview

The Lead Volleyball Instructor / Referee will work alongside the Sports & Programs Director to deliver and grow quality volleyball programming. This position will lead instructional programs, support assistant coaches, referee league games, and help create a positive, organized environment focused on player development.

The immediate focus will be launching Volleyball Skills, Drills & 3v3! beginning November 4th.

Key Responsibilities

Volleyball Instruction

  • Execute program curriculum and session plans.
  • Teach serving, passing, setting, hitting, defense, positioning, and game play.
  • Provide instruction and feedback appropriate for different skill levels.
  • Keep sessions active, organized, and engaging.

Assistant Coach Leadership

  • Lead and communicate with the partnered Assistant Volleyball Coach.
  • Delegate responsibilities and provide guidance during practices and programs.
  • Model strong coaching and professionalism.

Volleyball Refereeing

  • Referee YMCA youth volleyball league games.
  • Apply rules fairly and consistently.
  • Manage game flow while promoting safety and sportsmanship.
  • Communicate professionally with players and coaches.

Program Development

  • Work with the Sports & Programs Director to strengthen and expand volleyball programming.
  • Provide ideas and feedback on curriculum, equipment, and program structure.
  • Help develop future clinics, academies, camps, leagues, and other volleyball opportunities.

Ideal Candidate

  • Volleyball playing, coaching, or refereeing experience.
  • Enjoys working with youth athletes.
  • Confident leading groups and communicating with players, parents, coaches, and staff.
  • Dependable, organized, and prepared.
  • Passionate about player development and creating a positive sports environment.
  • Willing to take direction while also bringing new ideas to the program.

Hours can range between 3-7, Wednesdays or Sunday afternoon from 11a-3:30p during league season.

Salary: $17-$18.00 /hour
