Lead Truck Service Technician

Department: HOLT Truck (TRUCK)

Description

Job Summary: Diagnoses, repairs, reconditions, and adjusts key systems and components of On-Highway Trucks and related equipment.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
  • Performs major engine repairs and related equipment repairs
  • Disassembles, inspects, determines parts required, and reassembles to factory specifications within TRGs
  • Provides quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks
  • Prepares required documentation needed to complete repair orders
  • Performs Failure Analysis of failed engine components
  • Provides training and mentoring to Junior Technicians
  • Assists the service writer/supervisor with operations, e.g., work orders and authorizations
  • Uses computers and related software to assist in diagnosing and reprograming engines
  • Completes documentation for service reports, timecards, parts requisition and returns
  • Interprets and utilizes information from operating, maintenance, online resources, and service manuals/bulletins
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • General knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge and proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and On-Highway Truck electronic systems diagnostic tooling
  • Operation and control skills of On-Highway Trucks & Trailers

  • Ability to operate an On-Highway Truck on public roads
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands in order to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • Ability to read, write, and understand information
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to complete HOLT's VBL Classes, model HOLT's VBL Culture, and successfully apply the tools (Teach)

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent , accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program required
  • Five or more years required
  • One or more years supervisory/lead experience required
  • CDL – Class A or B required
  • ASE – Master Medium/Heavy Truck Certification required
  • Conventional forklift license required
  • Has met HDSI requirements for preceding Technician levels; Ability to model and teach Holt’s VBL Culture
  • On-going Safety Training required

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Travel:

  • Limited travel or overnight stays, limited travel to customer sites may be expected
  • Travel to other stores that require help during times of heavy workloads may be expected

Additional Requirements:

  • Must own and maintain the necessary tools to efficiently perform the job
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements:

Significant amount of time spent standing

Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity

Communication with customers and constant communication with co-workers

Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work

Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue

Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment

Lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Occasional kneeling, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, and balancing

Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment

Work Environment:

Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts

May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity

Frequently works in an enclosed vehicle or equipment

Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment

Exposure to high noise levels

Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting

Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment

Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings
