Design What Comes Next

Bring your expertise in railway engineering to some of Canada's most transformative rail and transit projects. As a Lead Track Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across complex passenger and freight rail initiatives, helping shape safe, efficient, and resilient transportation networks. This role combines advanced technical expertise with project delivery, client engagement, and business development responsibilities, offering a unique opportunity to influence major infrastructure programs while mentoring the next generation of rail professionals.

Your Impact

Technical Leadership and Design

  • Lead the development and review of track geometry and railway infrastructure designs in compliance with applicable industry standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Serve as the discipline lead for track design on rail and transit projects, making decisions on highly complex issues regarding work approach for project components and completion of team tasks and responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to employees at all levels, fostering technical excellence within the practice.
  • Work cross-functionally throughout the organization and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, utilities, structural, geotechnical, systems, and operations, to ensure design integration, technical alignment, and overall project optimization.
  • Demonstrate exceptional initiative, creativity and innovation skills.
  • Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, constructability analysis, construction staging, and value engineering exercises.

Project Management Support

  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Support project managers in monitoring progress, managing risks, and controlling scope, schedule, and budgets.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure deliverables meet quality, schedule, and contractual requirements.

Business Development and Market Opportunities

  • Participate in proposal preparation and develop and verify technical scopes.
  • Contribute to defining project approaches, methodologies, schedules, and level-of-effort estimates.
  • Support cost estimation and risk identification for bids and proposals.
  • Participate in technical interviews and client presentations as part of proposal teams.

Client Relations

  • Act as a technical point of contact for clients on railway alignment and track design matters.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships based on trust, technical excellence, and responsiveness.
  • Support client meetings, workshops, and design reviews.
  • Contribute to identifying new opportunities with existing and prospective clients.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • 10+ years of experience in railway track engineering, including the successful delivery of complex, multidisciplinary rail transit projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university engineering program, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of railway design and construction standards including AREMA, CN, CPKC, Metrolinx Track Standards, TTC, TCRP, and applicable Transport Canada requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, project delivery oversight, and guidance on complex railway engineering challenges.
  • Proven success in client-facing roles, proposal preparation, technical presentations, and business development support.
  • Strong understanding of track construction methods, inspection practices, maintenance requirements, and asset management principles.
  • Advanced proficiency with railway design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRail Designer, corridor modeling platforms, and Navisworks, along with experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $162,200 - $212,200
MB & ON: $148,000 - $198,000
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $146,500 - $194,600
