Job Description

As a Senior Telecommunications Designer (P6, Senior Technical Manager, Building Technology Systems), you will serve as a technical design authority responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of telecommunications and ICT systems supporting mission critical and data center facilities. This role requires the independent application of advanced engineering and design knowledge, along with the consistent exercise of professional judgment and discretion in developing system-level solutions.

You will lead the telecommunications design function across projects, making key design decisions that directly impact system performance, constructability, and client outcomes.

Your Impact

  • Lead the development of telecommunications system designs and architecture, including Outside Plant pathways, structured cabling systems, wireless infrastructure, and supporting ICT systems
  • Serve as technical authority for telecommunications systems, making independent decisions on design approaches, system configurations, and integration strategies
  • Evaluate project requirements and constraints to develop original, project-specific design solutions, ensuring alignment with client needs, industry standards, and mission critical performance requirements
  • Research, evaluate, and select system components and technologies, exercising independent judgment to determine optimal design solutions
  • Apply advanced knowledge of telecommunications systems and building technologies to resolve complex design challenges across multiple projects
  • Exercise discretion in balancing technical performance, constructability, cost, and schedule constraints
  • Define and implement design standards, best practices, and quality expectations for telecom systems across projects
  • Act as the primary telecommunications design representative in internal and external meetings, including direct engagement with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Provide technical guidance and defend design decisions to stakeholders throughout design and construction phases
  • Ensure alignment of telecommunications systems with overall project objectives and integration across engineering disciplines
  • Oversee the development of BIM/CAD deliverables to ensure designs accurately reflect approved system concepts and design intent
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control reviews, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements and standards
  • Maintain accountability for the completeness, coordination, and performance of telecommunications design deliverables
  • Lead and mentor junior designers, providing technical direction and oversight on project work
  • Guide team members in applying design standards, engineering principles, and best practices
  • Foster development of technical capabilities within the telecommunications design team

Who You Are

You are a senior-level design professional with deep expertise in telecommunications systems and a demonstrated ability to independently develop and lead complex technical solutions in a mission critical environment. You are comfortable taking ownership of design outcomes and representing your discipline with clients and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in telecommunications/ICT systems design for commercial, industrial, or mission critical/data center environments
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of progressive professional experience in lieu of education
  • Demonstrated experience independently developing system-level designs and making technical decisions impacting project outcomes
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications design principles, system integration, and industry standards
  • Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in resolving complex design challenges
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams and leading technical design efforts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mission Critical/Data Center design experience
  • RCDD, DCDC, or similar industry-recognized certifications
  • Experience engaging directly with clients and external stakeholders in a technical advisory capacity
