Job Description

Drive quality for assigned suppliers, including quality plan implementation. Select suppliers through qualification processes. Own supplier results, drive improvements utilizing supplier scorecards. Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance, and driving improvement plans where needed. Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Focused on execution of standard enabling activities/provision of advice subject to policy and work routines within an enabling discipline. There may be some latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing situations.

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is a critical technical focal point responsible for ensuring the quality of complex machined and fabricated components. You will operate in a "Two-in-a-Box" partnership with Sourcing to ensure that our supply base meets strict GE Vernova technical specifications, safety standards, and project delivery timelines. From tender (ITO) through project execution (OTR), you will drive supplier capability, process control, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Lifecycle Management: Lead supplier selection, qualification, and ongoing performance monitoring. Execute rigorous compliance and maturity audits (EHS, process control, and quality systems).
  • Technical Oversight & Qualification:
    • Review and approve Manufacturing Process Plans (MPP) and Control Plans.
    • Perform comprehensive Risk Assessments (Supplier/Product) and implement proactive mitigation plans.
    • Provide hands-on technical guidance to ensure supplier processes align with engineering drawings and international standards (ASME, ISO, DIN).
  • Operational Execution:
    • Oversee manufacturing milestones, ensuring timely delivery of Quality Records and Data Books.
    • Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for Non-Conformances (NCR) and oversee effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
    • Manage claims and recovery programs for non-performing suppliers.
  • Continuous Improvement: Execute data-driven quality improvements focusing on Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) characteristics. Work with suppliers to stabilize processes and reduce Defective Inspection rates.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Quality Metrics: Defective inspection rates (%), % of overdue NCRs, and RPN reduction.
  • Supplier Performance: Supplier Maturity score, compliance levels, and active mitigation plan progress.
  • Business Impact: Vendor Bill Back ($) and reduction in "Stop the Line" occurrences.

Required qualification and experience-

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical diploma with commensurate experience).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 7 years (Degree) or 10 years (Diploma) in manufacturing or quality roles.
    • Mandatory: Expert-level background in machining, heavy fabrication, and welding processes.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Advanced ability to interpret complex Engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.
    • Hands-on knowledge of Metrology and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) standards (PT, MT, VT).
    • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and relevant international manufacturing standards.
  • Soft Skills & Competencies:
    • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional alignment between Engineering, Sourcing, and Suppliers.
    • Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills to resolve complex quality disputes.
    • Proactivity: Proven track record of issue ownership and proactive risk mitigation.
  • Logistics: Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 40%).
