Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Commercial, Lead Strategist – Commercial Transformation serves as a strategic execution partner supporting key Commercial initiatives. The role works across business functions to translate complex technical, operational, and commercial concepts into actionable recommendations and implementation plans that drive measurable business results.

Working closely with the EVP and his direct reports, this individual will support the execution of strategic priorities, transformation initiatives, and business improvement efforts. While business leadership establishes vision and direction, this role is responsible for driving implementation, facilitating cross-functional alignment, monitoring progress, and ensuring initiatives deliver intended outcomes.

This role provides a unique opportunity to work across Commercial, supporting strategic initiatives, enterprise priorities, and executive decision-making. The position offers broad exposure to key business functions, senior leadership, and transformational efforts that shape Motiva's long-term success. Through these experiences, the successful candidate will broaden their business acumen, strengthen leadership capabilities, and gain valuable insight into critical areas of Motiva's value chain while positioning themselves for future growth opportunities within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of strategic Commercial initiatives, ensuring recommendations are translated into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Optimization leadership to drive Target Operating Model, operational improvement initiatives, and value realization efforts.
  • Coordinate implementation activities associated with major strategic initiatives, including post-consulting engagements and business transformation programs.
  • Apply project management discipline to organize complex workstreams, monitor milestones, manage risks, and ensure timely execution of key deliverables.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, and financial information into clear business insights, recommendations, and executive-level communications.
  • Develop presentations, analyses, briefing materials, and decision-support documents for executive leadership, governance forums, and business reviews.
  • Support executive committees, steering teams, and other leadership forums through preparation of materials, action tracking, and follow-up on key decisions.
  • Support the EVP, Commercial with strategic business reviews, commercial opportunity evaluations, deal analysis, and special projects.
  • Facilitate alignment and collaboration across Commercial, Manufacturing Optimization, Operations, Finance, Strategy, Business Development, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Identify barriers to execution and work across organizations to drive resolution and maintain momentum on business priorities.
  • Monitor initiative performance, track value realization, and provide leadership with updates, recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts focused on enhancing organizational effectiveness, business performance, and decision-making processes.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, operations, commercial, supply, finance, strategy, engineering, project management, business transformation, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success leading or supporting complex cross-functional initiatives and delivering measurable business results.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including managing multiple stakeholders, priorities, and implementation plans.
  • Ability to understand technical and operational concepts and communicate them effectively to business and executive audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive-level presentations and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and build strong relationships across organizational boundaries.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • MBA or other advanced degree.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation, operational excellence, business optimization, or strategic initiatives.
  • Experience working with Manufacturing Optimization, refinery operations, commercial organizations, supply, or asset management functions.
  • Experience translating strategic recommendations into implementation roadmaps and business results.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting refining economics, value chain optimization, capital projects, or downstream operations.
  • Experience preparing materials for executive leadership, governance committees, or board-level discussions.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in broader enterprise responsibilities.
