Job Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instrumentation - Using manual or mechanical means, cleans a variety of equipment and instruments at the appropriate level for patient care. Stores or assembles instruments into trays and case carts for distribution.

  • Sterile Processing - Uses defined processes to disinfect and/or sterilize equipment and instruments according to the type of equipment and the manufacturer's instructions for use. May inspect, assemble and/or test equipment prior to storage or transportation.

  • Equipment Management - Accurately maintains documentation and ensures equipment is appropriately processed to ensure timely availability. Records and reports malfunctioning equipment and damaged instrumentation, scopes and endoscopes, and other supplies.

  • Operational Leadership - Assist and lead the direction of the shift to ensure efficiency of daily workflow. Ensures adequate levels of inventory are maintained and available for use. Regularly functions as a preceptor and a resource for other Technicians.

  • Staff Leadership - Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Leads projects, process improvements and quality assurance efforts, developing corrective action plans and ensuring compliance and readiness plans are current. Creates daily assignments for SPD staff. Responsible for timekeeping.

Performs high level disinfection (HLD) and sterilization of equipment and instruments for clinical and surgical procedures according to designated processing team.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 3+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • Certification as either Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST), OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) is required

  • Additional certification that includes one or more of Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Surgical Instrument Specialist (CSIS), Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL), OR Certified Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) is preferred
