bp is a global energy business with a purpose to reinvent energy for people and our planet. We srive to be a very different kind of energy company by 2030, helping the world reach net zero and improving people’s lives. We are committed to crafting a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Join bp and become part of the team building our future!
bp’s Wells & Subsurface (W&SS) digital portfolio sits at the heart of how we explore, appraise, develop, and produce hydrocarbons globally. We are looking for a Lead Solution Architect, based in Pune, India, to orchestrate the next chapter of this transformation. Someone who can bring clarity to a rich, multi-vendor technology landscape and accelerate how data flows between disciplines, platforms, and people.
The W&SS estate covers a broad digital estate across subsurface geoscience, wells engineering, and foundational data platforms. This role owns solution-level architectural direction across that stack: translating business priorities into technical blueprints, resolving cross-platform integration challenges, and championing open data standards and AI that unlock new ways of working.
This role will report into the Principal Enterprise Architect for W&SS and partner closely with our technology peers and business partners. The impact is tangible: practitioners today spend significant amount of their time moving and reformatting data between systems. Solving that — through coherent architecture, better interoperability, and smarter use of AI/ML — directly accelerates decision-making and reduces cost.
What Does This Role Involve?
Day to day, this means working closely with engineering, in architecting solutions across data foundations, and reshaping how platforms and applications connect into our digital ecosystem efficiently., in alignment to our architectural vision and principles.
This role pioneers opportunities in AI, ML, and GenAI. Think intelligent assistants for geoscientists, automated data quality pipelines, and agent-based approaches to reservoir analysis. The architect also champions application rationalisation cutting through legacy complexity to focus investment where it matters most.
Key Design Decisions (KDDs), Domain Design Reviews, and Entity Design Reviews are regular forums where this role steers technical direction. Collaboration is global, with occasional travel (up to 10%).
The role comes with a competitive compensation and bonus package, comprehensive health and life insurance, and a hybrid working arrangement shaped around team and business needs. bp employees can participate in the Global ShareMatch plan to buy and receive matching bp shares. The Pune Digital Hub provides modern, collaborative workspaces alongside an active community of technologists. Extended parental leave, wellbeing programmes including the Employee Assistance Programme, and a wide range of learning pathways through grow@bp support long-term growth and balance.
bp is committed to providing reasonable accommodations throughout the recruitment process and in the workplace. If an adjustment or accommodation is needed at any stage — whether for the application, interview, or the role itself — please reach out to the recruitment team so appropriate support can be arranged.
bp is strengthened by the diversity of its people. The company fosters an inclusive environment where everyone is respected, treated fairly, and encouraged to bring their whole self to work. Different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences make better decisions — and better architecture.
