As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within the Commercial and Investment Bank, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an Option Market Making and Volatility execution platform across the trading stack
  • Develop and optimize performance-critical C++ (C++17/20) components with low-latency focus
  • Build low-latency, high-throughput systems handling real-time market data and order flow
  • Design and implement trading controls and risk management safeguards within the execution platform
  • Execute creative software solutions, system design, development, and technical troubleshooting beyond routine approaches
  • Develop secure, high-quality production code; review, debug, and raise code quality across the team
  • Collaborate with quantitative researchers and traders to translate strategies into resilient production systems
  • Write robust, well-tested code for high-availability production environments; improve operational stability
  • Drive architecture decisions and technical improvements (performance, resiliency, scalability, maintainability)
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline
  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience on software engineering and building trading systems
  • Expert proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20) in performance-critical production systems
  • Strong low-latency optimization skills (memory management, data structures, Linux systems programming)
  • Experience with TCP/UDP socket programming and real-time messaging architectures
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot distributed systems with high-availability requirements
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability; proficient across SDLC
  • Proficient with build tools, configuration management, and continuous integration environments; advanced understanding of agile/CI/CD, resiliency, and security
  • Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.
  • Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, secure handling of inputs/outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations; experience coaching engineers on safe, compliant adoption within delivery practices

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Knowledge of options, derivatives pricing, Greeks, and market making strategies
  • Experience building market data feed handlers and/or order management systems
  • Familiarity with exchange connectivity protocols (FIX, native/binary protocols)
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers in a trading technology environment
