Job Description

We have an opportunity to impact your career and provide an adventure where you can push the limits of what's possible.

As a Lead Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank's Securitized Product Group Technology team, you will be a subject matters expert (SME) for a specific area of trade pre-trade, trade capture, pricing, and real-time risk & pnl stream of work. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances

Job responsibilities

  • Lead the design, build, and modernization of FICC trading platforms with AWS as the default execution environment; define target-state cloud architecture, engineering standards, and delivery practices across teams.
  • Drive migration and transformation of legacy/on-prem components to cloud-native patterns (microservices, event-driven architecture, managed services), improving resiliency, scalability, security posture, and time-to-market.
  • Remain deeply hands-on (design + build + code reviews + production support) while owning end-to-end outcomes—requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, release, and operational stability.
  • Lead development of core services in Java (Core Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud) for trading workflows spanning pre-trade, trade capture, pricing, and related FICC capabilities.
  • Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.
  • Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation.
  • Design reliable integration patterns and messaging/event pipelines (e.g., Kafka and other enterprise messaging) to enable low-latency, scalable, and observable trade processing.
  • Streamline the technology stack across the domain by creating reusable cloud patterns (reference architectures, IaC modules, CI/CD templates, observability standards) and reducing fragmentation.
  • Implement strong cloud security controls (IAM, encryption, network segmentation), SDLC controls, auditability, and resiliency patterns (multi-AZ, graceful degradation, DR), aligned to firm standards.
  • Define and track engineering/operational KPIs (availability, latency, MTTR, change failure rate, cost efficiency) and report transformation progress to senior leadership with clear, outcome-based narratives.
  • Collaborate with Trading, Risk, P&L, and cross-functional technology partners to prioritize, shape roadmaps, and deliver scalable solutions that meet business and regulatory needs.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Strong, demonstrable experience architecting and delivering production-grade systems on AWS, including cloud-native design, operational excellence, and cost-aware engineering.
  • Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD automation, observability (logging/metrics/tracing), incident management, and reliability engineering practices.
  • 10 years plus of software engineering experience in Java and Spring ecosystem (Core Spring, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud); ability to design performant APIs and services.
  • Experience designing and supporting event-driven/distributed systems
  • Proven experience delivering complex systems with strong testing discipline, production support ownership, and operational stability focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across highly matrixed organizations, align stakeholders, and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Experience in Fixed Income trading systems (pre-trade/trade capture/pricing) and/or closely related capital markets domains.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong understanding of programming and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in messaging patterns (e.g., Kafka, familiarity with MQ-style systems is a plus).
  • Team player and positive attitude.
  • Graduate degree in Computer science/engineering field.
