As a Lead Engineer, you'll lead a team of engineers while designing, building, and scaling the core Amex GBT mid and back-office systems that power billing, invoicing, and reconciliation for a global travel business. We're looking for someone innovative, who combines strong hands-on engineering with the ability to lead a team and see the bigger picture.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers, setting technical direction and reviewing code and design
• Design, code, and implement backend solutions from concept to final hand-off, using Java and Spring Boot for high-volume billing and reconciliation workflows
• Build and maintain front-end interfaces and internal tools using React JS
• Architect and deploy cloud-native services on AWS and Kubernetes
• Estimate technical effort, work breakdown structure, risks, and dependencies for your team's roadmap
• Analyze and resolve complex technical and production issues across the platform
• Establish and promote engineering design guidelines, coding standards, and best practices
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other partners, including code and design reviews
• Experiment with new and emerging technologies, including applying AI to improve automation, data processing, and engineering productivity

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot for building scalable, enterprise-grade backend services
• Experience building modern front-end applications using React JS
• Solid experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization for transactional systems
• Hands-on experience deploying and handling applications on AWS and Kubernetes
• Practical exposure to AI/ML concepts and experience applying AI capabilities within production applications
• Strong experience in microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, data structures, and design patterns
• Curiosity and passion for problem solving
• Fluent in English
