Job Description

Help Create Stability, Safety, and Hope for Individuals and Families Experiencing Homelessness

At Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), we believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and a path forward. We’re looking for a strong, dependable, and people-focused Lead Shelter Support Staff team member to help guide day-to-day shelter operations while supporting clients during some of the most important moments of their lives.

This is more than a shelter role.
This is a leadership opportunity for someone who can remain calm under pressure, support teammates, solve problems in real time, and help create an environment where both clients and staff feel respected, supported, and safe.

If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy helping others succeed, and want meaningful work where you can see your impact every day — we’d love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As a Lead Shelter Support Staff team member, you’ll serve as an operational leader and mentor during shift while continuing to provide direct support to clients. You’ll help ensure shelter operations run smoothly, clients receive excellent service, and staff have the guidance and support they need.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Support and assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming shelter environment
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for Shelter Support Staff
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members
  • Help coordinate shelter operations, occupancy tracking, unit turnover, and inventory processes
  • Support documentation accuracy and HMIS workflows
  • De-escalate conflict and respond calmly during crisis situations
  • Conduct shelter walkthroughs and identify operational or safety concerns
  • Communicate important updates across shifts and departments
  • Step in wherever needed to support shelter operations and client care

This role is ideal for someone who leads by example, communicates professionally, and can balance compassion with accountability.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Has strong customer service and communication skills
  • Can stay composed and make sound decisions in challenging situations
  • Enjoys mentoring and supporting teammates
  • Is organized, dependable, and solution-focused
  • Believes in treating every person with dignity and respect
  • Works well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Schedule & Environment

This is a full-time position in a 24/7 shelter environment. Team members typically work four 11-hour shifts per week, including weekends and holidays.

The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and mission-driven. No two days are exactly the same — but everyday matters.
