We are the nation's largest owner of top-rated local television stations and digital assets serving 117 full-power television markets that collectively reach approximately 37% of US television households. The portfolio includes 80 markets with the top-rated television station and 100 markets with the first- and/or second-highest-rated television station in average all-day ratings across 116 such markets measured by Nielsen in 2025. We also own the largest Telemundo Affiliate group with 46 markets and Gray Digital Media, a full-service digital agency offering national and local clients digital marketing strategies with the most advanced digital products and services. About KWTX:

KWTX News 10 is the CBS affiliate serving Central Texas. We're the news leader in our market, covering Waco, Temple, Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Bryan, and the surrounding communities across broadcast and digital. We're a Gray Media station, and we take our connection to this community seriously — and few things connect a community like Friday night football.

Job Summary/Description:

KWTX News 10 is looking for a Lead Reporter/MMJ to work evenings out of our Waco newsroom, with a focus on investigative reporting and breaking news. This role is for someone who already has sources across Central Texas and knows how to work them — someone who wants to break the story everyone else is chasing, not follow it. You'll turn daily content for all platforms, build original enterprise stories, and produce a monthly investigative report that's entirely your own. You'll also work directly with Gray's investigative team on original reporting for our market and take part in our late-night streaming shows. We're also looking for a leader. Someone newer reporters and MMJs can look up to, learn from, and go to when they need guidance.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Report and produce daily content across broadcast and digital platforms during evening shifts
  • Generate original enterprise stories through personal sourcing and independent reporting
  • Produce one original investigative report per month
  • Partner with Gray's investigative team to develop and produce original investigative content for the Waco market
  • Shoot, write, and edit your own stories as an MMJ
  • Cover breaking news as it happens, including live reporting from the scene
  • Participate in KWTX's late-night streaming programming
  • Serve as a mentor to newer reporters and MMJs in the newsroom, offering guidance on reporting, storytelling, and sourcing
  • Maintain and grow a network of sources across Central Texas government, law enforcement, and community organizations
  • Collaborate with the assignment desk and news leadership on story development and coverage planning

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Proven track record of investigative and enterprise reporting
  • Strong, established sources across Central Texas or demonstrated ability to build them quickly
  • Experience as a multimedia journalist — comfortable shooting, writing, and editing your own stories
  • A bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is preferred
  • Excellent written and on-camera storytelling skills
  • Understanding of and adherence to AP Style and broadcast writing standards
  • Strong news judgment, sound editorial decision-making, and the ability to work independently
  • Leadership qualities and a genuine interest in mentoring newer journalists
  • Comfortable working evenings and appearing live for breaking news and streaming programming
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Newsroom experience required; investigative reporting experience strongly preferred
