Job Title: Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Reporting to: Clinical Nurse Manager
Location: Lancaster Surgery, Bay Vets
Salary: £29,557 – £31,488 depending on experience
Hours: Full-time (4 x 10-hour shifts) or part-time considered | 1 in 5 weekends

About the Role

Bay Vets is looking for a Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our friendly and supportive small animal team, primarily based at our Lancaster surgery Our team includes 15 vets, 24 RVNs and 7 patient care assistants working collaboratively across four practices located close to the beautiful Lake District and Yorkshire Dales

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced RVN with at least two years’ post-qualification experience and leadership skills who is keen to help develop and support our nursing team while maintaining excellent clinical standards.

As Lead RVN, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of the practice, leading a small team of five direct reports and ensuring patients receive outstanding care throughout their journey—from admission through to discharge. You will work closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and wider leadership team to maintain high clinical standards, improve efficiency in the patient pathway, and support the continued growth of the practice.

Our practices benefit from a varied first opinion and referral caseload, including orthopaedics, spinal surgery, soft tissue surgery and medicine. We also have access to an in-house CT scanner, providing excellent opportunities for nurses who enjoy developing their clinical skills.

The role requires someone who is organised, confident communicating with colleagues and clients, and comfortable working with autonomy in a busy practice environment You will oversee day-to-day patient flow, support the development of the nursing team, and ensure that both practice and group policies are consistently followed.

Working Pattern

  • Full-time: 4 x 10-hour shifts per week with the same day off each week

  • Part-time: We are happy to discuss flexible options that work for you

  • Weekend rota: 1 in 5 weekends (shared fairly across the team)

  • No out-of-hours: We have dedicated night nurses in place
