The Division

The Sports Business Division is central to the Club’s overall aspiration to become a globally recognised sports and entertainment brand, with world-class horse racing at its core. The Division’s overarching focus is to deliver sustainable growth of the Club’s sports business, deepen customer engagement, and contribute to position the Club as a leading global sports and entertainment brand to enable its commitment to social betterment. Its strategy is delivered through three pillars: broadening the fan base and prospecting new customers, growing the sports wagering business, and building the Club’s brand and commercialising its assets.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Trading Manager (Trading and Player Risk), the job holder will be responsible for assisting in the management of the following core areas:

  • Developing Trading Tools and Analytics Models to improve the profitability and efficiency of Sports Trading
  • Conducting statistical research and analysis of data
  • Developing and implementing algorithms and models into wagering solutions and tools
  • Providing BAU production support
  • Managing enhancement ideas/requests and issues/fixes

The Job

  • Develop Trading Tools and Analytics Models
  • Conducts cutting-edge research of Sports data to understand the relevant factors in order to predict likelihood of Sports outcomes
  • Manage and support the development of Eagle-I, and ensure the system remains robust and efficient
  • Builds ML/AI models on relevant data to produce accurate pricing algorithms along with analytics and risk management tools for Sports trading team
  • Provides strategic input to the development, implementation and delivery of product innovations to the Club (primarily Wagering team) along with pricing and service improvements and requirements
  • Assists in the development of all model and statistical analysis for automated wagering tools
  • Assists in the development of Trading Systems and Quantitative Finance engines with the objective of improving efficiency and profits exclusively in the trading environment
  • Ensures the team adheres to a streamlined, agile product development lifecycle, embracing automation at all times with standardized modular, reusable components
  • Builds close working relationship and actively liaises with wagering business teams and IT teams to closely align with dynamically changing business needs and ensure that the correct products are being developed and deployed
  • Recommends opportunities for and assists with driving initiatives on improving products and efficiencies

  • Assists with the implementation of data pipelines within the Team with regard to suitable hardware and infrastructure
  • Ensures that the Team delivers solutions to Sports Trading (and more widely if relevant) efficiently and with increased automation
  • Promotes use of the appropriate tools and processes through your experience in the areas of AI, cloud computing, big data to increase the likelihood of successful modelling
  • People Development
  • Assists with recruiting, on-boarding new joiners, and mentoring team members
  • Delegates appropriate tasks that will help provide relevant experience to improve HKJC know-how skills of team members to empower them with the capability to independently drive results with cross-functional teams (e.g. IT, Procurement, Finance, etc.)
  • Facilitates collaboration amongst colleagues across Trading (e.g. FB Trading Operations, Fixed Odds Racing, Trading Support, and Finance Compliance teams) and ensure that they are appropriately involved in decisions and plans that affect them • Assists with facilitating broader cross-team adoption and more advanced usage of team collaboration tool(s)

  • General Tasks
  • Assists with supplier management, contract management and renewals for relevant data subscription services
  • Assists with managing finances (CAPEX and OPEX) to ensure costs do not exceed budget
  • Provides regular management updates and recommended actions
  • Ensures TPR team’s Policies and Procedures are centralized and kept up-to-date and assists to ensure compliance by team members.
  • Ensures compliance with Responsible Gambling Policy and all stipulated legal requirements pertaining to wagering, thereby protecting the integrity of the Club’s businesses
  • Undertakes other duties as assigned by supervisors

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline. A Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field is preferred
  • At least 7 years’ experience in applying a variety of modelling, machine learning and AI techniques with demonstrable learnings and results
  • Recent experience in managing agile project life cycle through to delivery of working software, managing a team and developing talent pipeline
  • A passion, enthusiasm and curiosity about modelling data to investigate and solve problems with a proven ability to use and draw insight from data meaningfully
  • An interest and working knowledge of sports (especially Football and horse racing) and betting (global or local) is desirable, experience in the gaming sector ideal
  • Experience in writing board papers or in presenting white papers, journal articles and technical reports on the results of your research
  • Self-motivated and strong drive to succeed
  • Strong computational background, with significant production-level programming and scripting experience
  • Proficiency in various coding languages (C#/C++, R, SQL, VBA) with good knowledge of Python to deliver analysis and algorithms. Knowledge of new wave AI and ML languages and technologies preferred. Regardless of language, significant production-level programming experience is essential
  • Solid experience in relational databases (SQL Server), as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Solid experience in object-oriented programming (C#, Java, C++), as well as other scripting languages (Python, Matlab, R, VBA)
  • Able to use version control (GIT, TFS) efficiently
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English required, with fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin preferred
