Job Description

The Quality Control Lead is responsible for overseeing quality control activities within an electronics manufacturing environment to ensure products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and company quality requirements. This role leads a team of quality inspectors and technicians, drives continuous improvement initiatives, investigates quality issues, and collaborates with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to maintain the highest levels of product quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control Operations

  • Lead and supervise daily quality inspection activities for incoming materials, in-process production, and finished electronic products.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Monitor production quality metrics and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Conduct audits of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Review and approve inspection reports, test results, and quality documentation.

Team Leadership

  • Manage, coach, and develop Quality Inspectors and Quality Technicians.
  • Assign work priorities and ensure adequate staffing to support production schedules.
  • Train employees on quality procedures, inspection techniques, and customer requirements.
  • Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement.

Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause analysis investigations using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, or Six Sigma tools.
  • Coordinate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring defects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and reduce quality-related costs.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Customer & Supplier Quality

  • Respond to customer quality concerns and support customer audits.
  • Work with suppliers to address incoming material quality issues.
  • Monitor supplier performance and participate in supplier quality improvement programs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams during product launches and process changes.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IPC standards, and other applicable industry requirements.
  • Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • First Pass Yield (FPY)
    • Defect Rates
    • Scrap and Rework Costs
    • Customer Complaints
    • Corrective Action Closure Rates
  • Prepare quality reports for management review meetings.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, Quality Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of quality control or quality assurance experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of team leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with PCB assembly (PCBA), SMT, testing, and electronic product manufacturing processes preferred.
